Can lawyers still properly defend their clients?
We find it worrying that the Supreme Court went down the path of a very drastic limitation on the lawyer's pleading time. Specifically, the Court ruled that the Indictments Chamber could summon the detainee's lawyer to complete his plea after only 10 minutes.
Mayors go in search of potential criminals
A new law is in the pipeline that would allow municipal councils to close a commercial business or refuse an operating licence if there are indications that the business is being used to launder drug money, for example. Federal MPs will consider the text of the bill on 15 March 2023. Mayors have already expressed their displeasure with the new legislation in several newspapers. We too have reservations about the bill.
