Free legal help
Sometimes you find yourself with a small question and just don't know what to do. This is when you can turn to first-line assistance, also known as Free Advocacy Advice, in your neighbourhood.
The organisation of this first-line legal assistance is carried out by 13 first-line legal assistance commissions. They receive funding for this from the Flemish Government through the Agency for Justice and Enforcement.
Where can I go?
First-line legal assistance provides you with a short and clear answer to your legal question. If your question requires further research or follow-up, you will immediately receive an appropriate referral: you will know what to do, where to go, and who can help you further.
This service is completely free of charge and accessible to everyone. You can obtain legal assistance in a low-threshold way close to home, for example at justice houses, public social welfare centers (OCMWs), CAWs, social houses, and similar services. You can find all these locations listed below.
Many problems are not purely legal. The lawyers who provide this free advice know where to refer you and will put you in touch with other services. So you will not only find a lawyer here, but you will also be referred to other forms of assistance if needed.
Free Lawyers Adviceline
Do you feel hesitant to go directly to such a service? If so, you can also call the Free Lawyers’ Advice Line for a short legal question. You will be put directly in touch with a lawyer who will immediately help you get started with a brief answer and/or refer you to the appropriate assistance. This advice line is also completely free and anonymous.
You can contact this telephone service for 3 hours on each working day: from Monday to Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
