Information and participation portal

The Flemish legal profession largely determines for itself the way in which the legal profession is regulated. This is important to safeguard our independence. This independence, in turn, is crucial in the rule of law. After all, citizens must be able to trust that their lawyer is not under the thumb of the government.

Codex Deontology

The Order of Flemish Bars regulates the profession through regulations that are binding on all Flemish lawyers. All these rules are contained in the so-called Code of Ethics for Lawyers.

When adopting these regulations, the Order of the Flemish Bar always keeps the general interest in mind and very particularly the interest of the litigant.

In full transparency

We do this with full transparency, being open to the views of all interested parties, including those who are not lawyers. We are thinking of citizens in general, purchasers of lawyers' services, practitioners who frequently come into contact with lawyers and so on.

Whenever we consider introducing a new regulation or making an amendment to an existing regulation, the draft text will be available on this page.

Got a proposal of your own?

If you would have an opinion or comment on such a proposed regulation and would like to share it with us, please do so at ipportaal@ordevanvlaamsebalies.be. In the subject line, be sure to include the reference number (you will find it with the intended draft). That way we know what your message is about.

Also, if you would like to report something about existing regulations, you can reach us at ipportaal@ordevanvlaamsebalies.be. In the draft line of the e-mail, please include the article number of the Codex (e.g. 'art. 112 Codex').

We promise to take into account any useful information and in this way we will build better advocacy for you together.

The information and participation portal is intended only for those who want to say something about the current and future regulations of the Flemish lawyers. For complaints about individual lawyers, the OVB, or other matters not related to these regulations, we ask you to use the channels provided for that purpose. Messages that do not comply with this condition will not be processed.
