Social media privacy policy

Your privacy is important to us.
The Order of Flemish Bars ("OVB") collects and processes your personal data in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 ("GDPR").
When you interact with us through our social media pages (Meta, Twitter, Youtube and LinkedIn), we obtain your personal data including your name and your likes, comments and/or chats. We process this personal data based on our legitimate interest to respond to your comments or questions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). This data is stored exclusively in the third-party software we use to manage our social media pages. You can access and delete your personal data at any time via our social media pages.
We also obtain aggregated statistics regarding visitor activity on our company page. The relevant social media platform is co-responsible for processing your personal data in this context. We process this personal data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to manage and optimise our company page. This data is stored exclusively in the third-party software we use to manage our social media pages. Regarding the exercise of various rights, we refer to the privacy settings of LinkedIn, Twitter and Meta, including the possibility of exercising your right to object.
In addition, the OVB uses advertising options to display targeted ads based on data that the social media platform obtains from you and other users (e.g. when creating your profile). The relevant social media platform is co-responsible for processing your personal data in this context. The processing of your personal data is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to promote our communications via social media platforms. We select the target audience only on the basis of the predefined criteria of these social media platforms and do not have access to your personal data. This data is stored exclusively in the third-party software we use to manage our social media pages. Regarding the exercise of various rights, we refer to the privacy settings of LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, TikTok, such as, among others, the possibility of exercising your right to object.
We may also obtain your personal data in the context of interactions with you as a lawyer (trainee), (potential) supplier, (potential) employee, government agency or in the context of other professional contacts. In that case, we provide a specific privacy statement in which you can find more information about what personal data we process, why we process it, how we obtain it, how long we keep it and with whom we share it.

You can also contact us to exercise the following rights: a request to inspect or rectify your personal data; a request to erase your personal data; a request to restrict the processing of your personal data; a request to transfer your personal data; a complaint if you believe we are not acting in accordance with applicable data protection legislation. You of course also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority.
