What topic should your master's thesis be about?
The Thesis Prize rewards master's theses that are relevant to the legal profession or to citizens seeking justice, and that are in line with the mission of Advocaat.be. Concretely, it concerns a scientific analysis (legal or non-legal) of subjects such as:
- the role and position of the lawyer in our society
- the legal protection of citizens and access to justice
- the organisation of the bar and the deontology of lawyers
- legal assistance and the training of lawyers
- the quality and efficiency of the administration of justice
- legislation having an impact on the legal profession

Who can participate?
- You wrote your master's thesis during the 2024-2025 academic year
- You obtained min. distinction on your master's thesis
- Your master's thesis concerns the legal profession, or access to justice
How to participate?
You have already done most of the work, namely writing your thesis. Now for the rest:
- Send three bound copies of your master's thesis to:

The presentation of the Thesis Award will take place during the general meeting of Advocaat.be in the first quarter of 2026.

Master's thesis on intelligence and criminal proceedings wins 2024 Scriptieprijs
Advocaat.be presents the Scriptieprijs 2024 to Benoît Van Cauwenberghe for his exceptional master's thesis on the use of intelligence information in criminal proceedings (UGent). His research sheds new light on the role of this information as a starting, targeting and steering tool, as well as evidence in criminal cases. Moreover, he examines the tensions between national security and the right to a fair trial.

Florian Pollefeyt, a graduate of KU Leuven with first-class honours for both his bachelor's and master's degrees, has won Advocaat.be's 2023 thesis award. His exceptional achievements and dedication to legal research have been rewarded with a sum of 2,500 euros.
Chiara Kerckhof wins prestigious thesis award
Chiara Kerckhof obtained 18 out of 20 for her master's thesis "Truth finding in civil procedure. The duty of truth and completeness on behalf of litigants". With that master's thesis, she has now won our thesis prize worth 2,500 euros. Find out why she deserves it here!
