The aptitude test

If you attended a training course in another Member State of the European Union with subject areas substantially different from those of Belgian law school, you must pass the aptitude test. This is organised by the Order of Flemish Bars.

What does this proficiency test consist of?

The aptitude test consists of:

  • a written exam: civil law, including civil procedure, criminal law, including criminal procedure and one optional subject (public law, administrative law, tax law, commercial law or social law)
  • an oral examination: theory of duties and the subjects you did not pass in the written examination part.

The Order of Flemish Bars organises this aptitude test in Dutch, L'ordre des barreaux francophones et germanophone organises it in French and German. You can find more information at www.avocats.be

The registration fee for the aptitude test is 370 euros.

Dates of proficiency tests

  • 17 September 2024 (written examination part)
  • 15 October 2024 (oral examination part)

The registration deadline is 1 August 2024.
