The new and improved version Salduz-web strengthens the cooperation between the police, the judiciary and the legal profession and ensures a more efficient and user-friendly organisation of legal assistance during interrogations. Thanks to technical improvements, every suspect gets faster access to a lawyer, which improves legal certainty.
Master's thesis on intelligence and criminal proceedings wins 2024 Scriptieprijs
Advocaat.be presents the Scriptieprijs 2024 to Benoît Van Cauwenberghe for his exceptional master's thesis on the use of intelligence information in criminal proceedings (UGent). His research sheds new light on the role of this information as a starting, targeting and steering tool, as well as evidence in criminal cases. Moreover, he examines the tensions between national security and the right to a fair trial.
Lawyers call for efficient and transparent digitisation of justice system
Despite various digitalisation initiatives, the Justice Department continues to face structural problems in digitalisation. Stronger governance, clearer roles and more structural consultation should contribute to a successful digital transition.
