16 lawyers scrapped in 2022-2023
The College of Supervision of the Flemish Legal Profession has published its fourth report. This provides an overview of disciplinary proceedings against lawyers in Flanders (including Brussels-Dutch) in the judicial year running from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023.
How can the coalition agreement strengthen our legal system?
What will the coalition agreement mean for justice? How can it strengthen our justice system? The Order of Flemish Bars (OVB), the professional organisation of more than 11,000 Flemish lawyers, considered these questions and provided the parties participating in the formal negotiations with an ambition note to inform, inspire and support the drafting of the coalition agreement.
Majority election programmes threaten rule of law
Most of the election manifestos contain items that pose a direct threat to the rule of law, no party offers 100% guarantee on its principles. The rule of law does not appear to be a quiet possession but a verb. "Take care of the rule of law and the rule of law will take care of you," explains Peter Callens, president of Advocaat.be."Therule of law protects us from arbitrariness, abuse of power and corruption thanks to institutions and rules."
