Assize Court

For the most serious crimes, a trial is held before the Assize Court. A jury of 12 citizens decides the question of guilt in that case. However, the jury is not involved in dealing with any civil action.

Currently, the functioning of Assizes is under review and a reform and simplification is being considered. An initial law on this was overturned by the Constitutional Court in late 2017 for violation of the Constitution. To be continued, therefore.
