First-line legal assistance
What is first-line legal assistance?
Anyone can go to legal first-line assistance, or 'Free Legal Advice', for free exploratory advice from a lawyer.
Free first-line legal assistance is organised in each judicial district by the Commission for Legal Assistance (CJB) and is accessible to everyone.
At fixed times, lawyers sit in a Justice House, PCSW or Social House to answer simple legal questions. You get answers to questions such as:
- Should I reply to this letter?
- Which service can help me further?
- Should I be present at the hearing?
- Is it worth consulting a lawyer?
- Is there anything else I can do?
So the free first-line assistance does not provide comprehensive advice or an in-depth treatment of your case. A pro bono lawyer does through the second-line legal assistance if you meet certain conditions.
