Flemings satisfied with their lawyer
Flemings who have already consulted a lawyer are predominantly satisfied with the service. This is according to a new survey by iVOX. For private cases, clients give their lawyer an average score of 7.3 out of 10, while for professional cases this is even slightly higher at 7.6 out of 10. Still, there are some working points, such as transparency about costs and communication.
Everyone consults a lawyer from time to time
The survey shows that 9 in 10 Flemings have already sought legal assistance for a private matter at some point in their lives. The most common reasons are divorce (18%), road traffic (14%) and damages (13%).
In professional cases, 1 in 5 Flemish people have already used a lawyer, mainly for contractual issues (38%) and labour law cases (22%).
Strong satisfaction, but with areas for improvement
Lawyers get strong scores on average, but clients still see room for improvement. In private cases, 41% think legal assistance could be cheaper and 34% call for more transparency about costs. In addition, 33% indicate that communication could be better. Speed of handling is also an area of concern: 27% felt their case could be handled faster. For professional files, the figures are along the same lines, with 37% seeing price as an area for improvement and 32% wishing for faster handling.
According to Peter Callens, president of Advocaat.be, the survey confirms the importance of transparency and communication
"The legal profession is in a strong position, but every sector has working points. This survey shows that clear communication and transparency about costs are key to even more satisfied clients."
Confidence in legal profession remains high
Despite some areas for improvement, confidence in the legal profession remains firm. More than 8 in 10 Flemings would use a lawyer again. In private cases, 33% would choose the same lawyer again, while 18% would go for a different one. In professional cases, loyalty is even higher: 41% remain loyal to their lawyer, while 12% choose another. In 30% of cases, the choice depends on the expertise required.
