Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board was established in the bosom of the Order of Flemish Bars. It independently supervises the disciplinary policy of the bar associations and the chairpersons of the disciplinary councils. The College reports on this in its annual report and formulates opinions and recommendations.

It thus contributes to a transparent and efficient disciplinary policy for lawyers and to the harmonisation of disciplinary policy in the Flemish disciplinary landscape. This increased transparency results in staff holders and chairpersons of disciplinary boards better coordinating their policy options in disciplinary cases.

As the Supervisory Board is an independent body, there is no place in the functioning of the Board for interference by the OVB or the staff holders. The Board neither handles individual complaints about lawyers nor intervenes in ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
